Overwatch and Fiesta Bowl team up for collegiate competition

This will see four top teams battle it out in February.

The Arizona-based non-profit organisation Fiesta Bowl has partnered with Overwatch to deliver a new college championship, with the former using its college football work to 'broaden our footprint' as an organisation, as revealed in a recent announcement.

The partnership between Blizzard and Fiesta Bowl sees the top four Overwatch collegiate teams head to Arizona for the Tespa Overwatch Collegiate semi-finals, these being University of California, Berkeley; University of Toronto; University of California, Irvine; and University of California; San Diego. Six scholarships (one for each player) go to the winning team, so the stakes are pretty high too.

"The passion and tradition of college football are a perfect match to the drama and excitement of Overwatch collegiate esports," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We're excited to see some of the top college Overwatch players competing for scholarships and glory as part of the Fiesta Bowl festivities."

The Fiesta Bowl Overwatch Collegiate National Championship is taking place on Saturday, February 17, at Arizona State University and will be preceded by an exhibition match between ASU and the University of Arizona. Do you think more college-level esports competitions should be held?

Ci sono voluti 18 anni prima che Blizzard si lanciasse in una nuova IP. Ma n'è valsa davvero la pena tutta questa attesa.
